December 6Vienna according to checkpointmedia – Media based City Tour
On 6 December 2011 Virgil Widrich led a group of students from the Hani Rashid architecture class (University of Applied Arts Vienna) through Vienna city centre to two very different scenes of checkpointmedia’s work. In the Mozarthaus Vienna (exhibition architecture by Gustav Pichelmann) the focus was on recreating a historical personality using new media in a listed building.
The approach adopted at the Visitor Centre in the Parliament building was entirely different: under the direction of the architects Geiswinkler&Geiswinkler a new structure was built underneath the old historic building in which the history and modus operandi of democracy in Austria are presented with the aid of media. The excursion was rounded off by a talk given by Agnes Hannes in the checkpointmedia offices. -
