Virgil Widrich and Hans Kupelwieser mentioned as great-great-grandsons of the painter Leopold Kupelwieser, today counted among the most prominent artists in Austria.
Christian Hütterer: “Kunst und Stahl. Die Dynastie der Kupelwieser von Piesting in die Welt hinaus”. Kral-Verlag, Berndorf, 2024. The book traces the history of the Kupelwieser family — from the painter Leopold Kupelwieser (1796–1862) through his sons, who built careers in steel production and acted as patrons of science and social institutions (biological research station at Lunzer See, the world's first Radium Institute in Vienna, the transformation of the Brioni Islands from a malaria-infested archipelago into a tourist destination), to the descendants living today. In the concluding chapter, Hans Kupelwieser ( 1948) and Virgil Widrich ( 1967) are presented as two great-great-grandsons of the painter who today rank among the most prominent contemporary artists in Austria.
